In my first week in Bologna I knew nobody so I booked into the town’s only hostel – miles out of the centre – and schlepped around the town listening for English-speaking people who sounded nice and accosting them. One of these was an Irishman who was working for the city’s only decent English-speaking magazine. It was called talkaBOut and it billed itself as Bologna’s indispensable lifestyle guide. Well, eventually it was dispensed with but it had a couple of good years and was great fun. And I got to meet Peter Greenaway. Here’s my piece on him and interviews with the writer Tim Parks and the designer Andrew Mackenzie.
